Technology is starting to become an important phase in everyone’s life. It has become a tool rather than a luxury for the modern-day lifestyle. It has become inevitable in our everyday life and life without it would be pointless in today’s energetic world. Recently the entire technology industry has experienced 59 percent of more workers using social media to transform their work problems into mindful and meaningful solutions. This has not only made the companies’ lives more convenient but also benefited economically, thus having a win-win situation for everyone.

Social Media in the Workplace

In John R Carlson’s article titled “Social Media Use in the Workplace: A Study of Dual Effects”, he talks about how social media use in the workplace can contribute towards productive behaviors at work. Taken from Facebook’s newsroom Carlson states “There are approximately 1.32 billion monthly active users of Facebook alone” (Carlson, 2016). This states that despite being numerous social media websites, Facebook is the one that experiences more than a billion active users monthly. He also tries to foreshadow that this might be an important aspect of the workplace. This is further evidenced when there is a statement made by him, taken from the article “The Job Seeker” by Infographic, “An estimated 86% of job seekers have a social network profile, one in six job seekers found their last job through an online social network, and 54% of social media users have used Facebook, LinkedIn, or Twitter in their job search in the last year” (Carlson, 2016). This exemplifies the fact that even the professional work environment roams around social media and people are able to find jobs by the same. Even recruiters, employees, higher management people share their social media profiles to connect more with people and further excel in their careers. According to me, Carlson does a great job of getting the facts out about how social media is an important tool in the workplace industry.

Opportunities with Social Media

Social Media can help a lot of people who are unemployed in finding jobs. People can showcase their talent and entice companies. Recruiters usually tend to know about job seekers before their interviews so they can weigh them specifically and take a look over their qualities. Social media is also important for companies for these reasons:

  • Engaging with customers
  • Improving customer service skills
  • Creating a brand value

Over and Above there is no denying to the fact that social media is a huge part for everyone from companies to employees. It can help businesses grow to their maximum potential and establish themselves as a trustworthy business thus benefiting the public as well as the business.
