The Future of Holograms

Whether you realize it or not holograms are everywhere around us today. From being used in the military to the medical field, this technology aids us in everyday life. Holograms used to be very popular in science fiction films such as the Star Wars series, but we have come a long way to make it a reality. Here are a few examples of how holograms are being used today:

Military Mapping
Geographic intelligence is crucial for the military. Not only can 3D holograms be turned into maps of different strategy plans, but they can also display the terrain the soldiers will be covering. Soldiers have the ability to interact by looking around corners and even train for missions. In addition, these displays are useful for disaster evacuations and military rescue scenarios. These holograms are displayed from a holographic sheet that is simple to use and can be rolled up for easy storage.

Medical
There are an endless amount of opportunities for the use of holograms in the medical field. Current systems that are used such as MRI’s (magnetic resonance image) and ultrasound scans are able to produce very complex data by using imaging technology that is extremely advanced. This imaging technology is able to generate computerized 3D holograms that are full of color. These holograms are used for visualizing patient data as well as training students and employees, especially surgeons. One of the biggest advantages is that the holograms do not require any sort of visual aid to be viewed, everything can be seen through the naked eye. Such images that are able to be seen include complex organs such as: the heart, lungs, liver, brain, nerves, and even muscles. This technology makes training much easier on everyone and is very beneficial.

Art
Artists around the world are using hologram technology in their works. They have the ability to bend and cut space and combine multiple still images or video. These images and videos produce animated 3D art and can also shape pure light.

Information Storage
Holograms are very useful when it comes to storing information. They are capable of storing a crazy amount of data all at once. These store data in 3 dimensions on a page, and those pages can be overlapped in storage space. One cool feature about these holograms is if one were to be dropped and broken, one piece can be used to reconstruct all of the data that was stored. This type of data storing is very reliable.

Fraud and Security
Holograms used in fraud and security are constantly around us. Such holograms are seen on credit cards, money, and even your drivers license. These holograms are very difficult to forge making fraud more challenging.

Hologram on Credit Card

Holograms we used to see with science fiction have come a long way over time. We are only seeing the beginning stage of holograms, as they will become and even bigger part of society very soon.
