Our Changing Climate Demands the Use of Renewable Energy

A crucially important aspect of the implementation of renewable energy sources is the state of our environment. If industries and governments refuse to admit that our climate is changing, we will never see a fast-enough transition to renewable energy sources. A peer of mine wrote an incredible blog post detailing the effect climate change has already had on our planet. (Climate Change and its Affects on Business)

Changes We’ve Already Seen

Many politicians refuse to believe that climate change is real. Either they are choosing to be ignorant of the facts or they know that coal and oil companies make them a lot of money and they are not willing to give that up. Regardless of their reasoning, it is unacceptable and it must be addressed sooner rather than later because we are already seeing the consequences of our actions. As stated in the blog, “Some of these things we’ve witnessed in this year alone- wildfires on the West coast, unpredictable storms on the east coast, temperature highs, droughts, and increased flooding from the norm.” (Brigman, 2020) This year alone we have witnessed so many unprecedented meteorological events. If we don’t do something soon to try and remedy some of the mistakes we made, it will become too late. These events will become the norm if we don’t do something to prevent our climate crisis from worsening. I think the implementation of renewable energy resources is an important first step because it will greatly decrease our carbon dioxide emissions into the atmosphere and will hopefully give us more time to fix the other climatic problems we need to address.

We Need to Take Action

The only thing that will truly solve this problem is action. Businesses must switch to renewable energy sources as soon as possible and governments must demand that these changes happen. Also, we as citizens need to vote for the politicians who truly want that change to occur. We cannot continue to support politicians who do not believe in climate change or refuse to address it as a problem. There needs to support from the government to help these businesses make these changes in an economically beneficial way. As stated in the blog, “To see change businesses will need to spend some time and money figuring out how they can improve their carbon footprints and find alternative energy sources. Although this seems daunting and expensive, it could also be looked at as an opportunity to increase productivity by becoming more energy-efficient, reduce costs, and perhaps it could even promote innovation.” (Brigman, 2020) Although a full switch to renewable energy sources will definitely be costly, it will lead to so many great things in the future. As we put time, money, and effort into discovering new ways of doing things we will also create new jobs for so many people. Although it will be inevitable that some jobs will cease to exist, these changes will most definitely lead to job creation as well. It is important that the government support these efforts so that it can be done in the best way to also help the economy simultaneously.

It is crucial for our environment that we make the changes we are seeing seriously. The sooner we make the necessary changes to help our environment the better off we will be in the future. The changes need to be made now and need to be supported by the government, big businesses, and the public to really create the change we need.
