Week 6: Post Exploratory Research Presentation

Moving into Generative Research after Exploratory Research Presentation

After our Exploratory Research Presentation, we started exploring ideas for our Generative Research. Luckily, we had Liz Sanders come into teach us a bit about generative research. She helped us brainstorm some ideas for a participatory workshop.

After Liz Sander’s talk, our team went back to refine our stakeholders. Initially, we wanted to research around different types of schools: public, private, and community. But after great discussion, we decided upon different industries/fields of study at a private school: creative, engineering/science, and business. The reason we shifted is because during our presentations, we were asked about soft skills being applied to different industries several times and the latter group was more accessible for the scope of our project.

Furthermore, we were interested in students entering the workforce, recent new grads and managers across the three fields (i.e. creative, engineering/science, and business).

To understand the pain points, strengths and weaknesses in communications across these groups of stakeholders, we decided to perform the following research methods:

  1. Students Entering the Workforce: Survey and Workshop with 4 activities
  2. New Grads: Diary and Note to Past Self
  3. Employers: Interview and Note to Future Employee

We also define scenarios that we can talk about to give more grounds to our interviews. These scenarios were captured on our survey, as well.

Next week, we will complete our workshop and interviews and hopefully start to synthesize by Friday evening.
