On April 20, Amazon announced the launch of Amazon Salon-a hair care and styling salon on Brushfield Street in London’s Spitalfield that features augmented reality hair consultations. Let’s take a look at the future of hairdressing in today’s blog.

Ever wanted to update your hairstyle with a new color but didn’t dare take the plunge? Amazon’s new salon in London, named Amazon Salon, lets you experiment with new shades using augmented reality. So you can see a realistic result on a screen before you totally commit.

Post-lockdown in some areas of the world led this e-commerce giant to launch a professional beauty area on its website. This section showcased and sold over 10,000 products, including clippers, hairdryers, and curlers. Now Amazon is taking haircare to a whole new level and could completely change what we see in salons all around the world.

What does Amazon Salon offer?

Customers will have the opportunity to experiment with different virtual hair colors using technology. And this technology isn’t like any hair app you’ve come across before; it provides an accurate color representation of the dyes used in the salon. Additionally, each stylish station will have Fire tablets on display so you can capture your new look or enjoy entertainment. The salon will also share a selection of professional hair care products. Most excitingly, Amazon Salon will showcase new point-and-learn technology. This means that customers can point at the product they want on a shelf to display relevant information, such as educational content and brand videos. So you can trust your own judgment rather than your hairdressers. To make an order, simply scan the QR code on the shelf and visit Amazon’s official website.

“We have designed this salon for customers to come and experience some of the best technology, hair care products, and stylists in the industry. We want this unique venue to bring us one step closer to customers, and it will be a place where we can collaborate with the industry and test new technologies”.

John Boumphrey, U.K. country manager, Amazon

At the moment, prices for the hairdressing services, such as highlights, braids, and treatments, haven’t been announced. Moreover, this new salon is currently only open to Amazon employees, and the general public can book appointments in the “coming weeks”. Amazon’s press release also specifies that they don’t have plans to open other salons.

Would you like to make an appointment at Amazon Salon? Or are you disappointed that there aren’t robots whizzing around and Alexa-enabled devices at every styling station? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
