AI music generators have leveled up lately. So much so that we can seriously start to use them for real music production.

I don’t mean just prompting songs, although that is certainly possible. The latest release of Sonu v3, along with newcomers Sonauto and Udio have been lighting up social media feeds.

They are impressive.

While the tools are fun to play and experiment with, I was curious to determine if they are mature enough to use as a collaboration partner in crafting a production-quality song.

Among the three, Udio stood out as the most impressive in terms of quality and most importantly in making some interesting creative choices. More on that later.
