This morning, OpenAI announced an initiative they’re calling the “12 Days of Shipmas.” Beginning on December 5, OpenAI will release a new feature or product every weekday for 12 days.

Here’s what to expect from OpenAI’s 12-day blitz of AI launches.

Sora, finally!

According to reporting from The Verge, OpenAI is almost certain to release their new Sora AI video generator as part of the 12 Days of Shipmas.

It’s about time!

OpenAI first announced Sora almost a year ago to great fanfare. They’ve also hinted that Sora would be out sometime in 2024.

After the initial excitement, and a very cool short film, essentially nothing happened.

It wasn’t clear what was causing so many delays with Sora. Meanwhile, other competitors like Luma and Runway stepped in to eat OpenAI’s lunch.

Google even got in on the game by announcing their new Veo platform for AI video generation.

Now, OpenAI is fighting back, and will almost certainly release Sora during Shipmas.

It’s likely to be available to premium users only, with a phased rollout and strict usage limits, since the platform is so…
