Is Trump like George III?
Trump is what the Declaration of Independence warns against.
Could it be that the 2nd amendment was there actually to protect the USA from leaders like Trump? ;) It only got worse, since I wrote this. check for yourself.)
Check the Declaration of Independence
Trump behaves way too much like King George III, whose behavior was reason for the Declaration of Independence. The consequences are dire for the USA and the world. And I think, these words from the declaration of independence say it all: “when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security.” The whole of the USA is unsafe. We are in a global crisis. The destruction of our eco-systems must be addressed. And even when new devastating wars are won, just consider the hurt in lives and damages for ordinary citizens, who are still paying for all the previous wars. So how legal is then the current government, let alone the president, according the foundation of ‘We the People’? Check it out:
How many of these complaints in the Declaration of Independence about King George III fit Donald Trump?
“He (This he is George III) has refused his Assent to Laws, the most wholesome and necessary for the public good.” Trump may still grudgingly uphold the law, does he(?), he sure is deaf for urgent warning cries about injustices, victims of disasters, victims of bad health care, victims of corporate abuse of power and more. He doesn’t serve the public good, other than that of the rich and some of his followers.
“He has forbidden his Governors to pass Laws of immediate and pressing importance, unless suspended in their operation till his Assent should be obtained; and when so suspended, he has utterly neglected to attend to them.” What is Trump neglecting? He for sure doesn’t work much, recent studies reveal. What is he denying? And have health issues, like lead in drinking water or the Opioid crisis significantly improved, let alone been taken on as an urgent issue? Is the infrastructure being rebuild as promised? Is the land teeming with new green projects for a healthy future?
“He has refused to pass other Laws for the accommodation of large districts of people, unless those people would relinquish the right of Representation in the Legislature, a right inestimable to them and formidable to tyrants only.” One could argue that when there are no laws against Gerrymandering, Blacklisting, Voting machine meddling, closing of polling stations, etc, many people are excluded from their right and chance to vote. Lack of regulations for money in politics has impoverished large districts of people. One could claim, thus have been denied their right of representation.
“He has called together legislative bodies at places unusual, uncomfortable, and distant from the depository of their Public Records, for the sole purpose of fatiguing them into compliance with his measures.” Trump held meetings in Mar-a-Lago. He has done backroom deals with Saudi Arabia, and had other strange position changes, like with Indonesia and Russia. Money? Blackmail? And Trump is a bully and we know it.
“He has dissolved Representative Houses repeatedly, for opposing with manly firmness of his invasions on the rights of the people.” Perhaps he hasn’t dissolved Representative Houses, yet, but he sure is thinking about it. And once again the undressing of consumer protection, of the EPA, of education and some more branches is deeply, deeply worrying. But it makes some corporations very happy, because they get all the protection money can buy.
“He has refused for a long time, after such dissolutions, to cause others to be elected, whereby the Legislative Powers, incapable of Annihilation, have returned to the People at large for their exercise; the State remaining in the mean time exposed to all the dangers of invasion from without, and convulsions within.” Tell me, how much worse must the convulsions within become? And Trump is losing friends and allies. He turns countries that had respect for the USA, like China and Russia into possible enemies. That means increase in danger. He lies about the danger of Iran, spurred on by the Saudis and arms industry to do so. His shows of power make the world way more insecure, than former good diplomacy.
“He has endeavored to prevent the population of these States; for that purpose obstructing the Laws for Naturalization of Foreigners; refusing to pass others to encourage their migrations hither, and raising the conditions of new Appropriations of Lands.” Well, anyone seen the news? Even when you worry about the new immigrants, (10’s of thousands, not millions) it’s clear Trump is obstructing the laws for Naturalization of Foreigners. Rather than legal teams he has send troops to the border, he has separated parents and children by the thousands, without any legal jurisprudence.
“He has obstructed the Administration of Justice by refusing his Assent to Laws for establishing Judiciary Powers.” He refused to abide by the law. Used his power to pressure a foreign state (probably more). He lied about so many things. He led a citizens (Guiliani) do state affairs for him. Etc. I am already shocked how much I find by just following the news a bit. Might that all be fake news?
“He has made Judges dependent on his Will alone for the tenure of their offices, and the amount and payment of their salaries.” Trump is clearly appointing puppet judges that bid his will and support his politics. This is degrading trust in justice very much and harms many people daily.
“He has erected a multitude of New Offices, and sent hither swarms of Officers to harass our people and eat out their substance.” Trump may not have invented new offices. He did do something though which would fit this bit. He swamped many established ones with deniers and obstructors, who abolish the office that they should uphold. Once again, EPA, Education, Consumer protection, and many others. As military, intelligence offices, civil servants one has to wonder, do I protect the president and government as representation of the people? Or do I protect their interests against those of the people? I can’t judge that. But I believe many feel caught in a system they don’t feel free in to question commands and orders. That too is worrying.
“He has kept among us, in times of peace, Standing Armies without the Consent of our legislatures.” One should wonder if the the growth of militarized police, with the order to “enforce uphold the law” instead of protecting the citizens might be regarded as such. The protestors at Standing Rock surely didn’t only meet local police. One could also wonder that this was written in a time when the USA was far from invading other countries. But now it does, so do the standing US armies around the world count. And who allowed the war in Yemen? Who of congress and senate is supporting war with Iran, because war monger Bolton wants it, and I hear too little protest.
“He has affected to render the Military independent of and superior to the Civil Power.” Once again, who got to vote over droning Syria, Iraq, Yemen and many other places? Who has a hold over Eric Prins and his mercenary practices? Who had a say in him betraying the Kurds?
“He has combined with others to subject us to a jurisdiction foreign to our constitution, and unacknowledged by our laws; giving his Assent to their Acts of pretended Legislation.” You tell me. Do you feel your laws are protecting you? Do you feel he lies about what certain new rules and legislations pertain?
“For quartering large bodies of armed troops among us.” Once again, the shift from ‘protecting civilians’ to ‘enforcing the law’, with a police force that isn’t trained in de-escalation (normal in Europe), but in pulling weapons fast. The USA is becoming a country occupied by a few people with way too much power because of money. They are protecting their interests through consciously molding laws and regulations, bombarding politicians with lobbyists and money, spreading lies and disinformation to the people and slowly degrading freedom of the press and free expression. Also the use of military against immigrants is a dangerous precedent. He even is militarizing the police with army equipment.
“For protecting them, by a mock Trial from punishment for any Murders which they should commit on the Inhabitants of these States” So when bankers, chemical companies, and big pharma get away with impoverishing, poisoning, and drugging the people without any consequence, does that relate to the above? How many more (black) people can the police shoot without any consequence? On the other side one can also ask how many mock trials are happening, when judges driven by targets must fill private prisons, just for the money?? How many trials are not happening that should happen to make any imprisonment legal? How many people are in jail for at the least dubious grounds? How clear is the disparity in punishment for minorities? And lets not talk about people who just disappeared when they should have been protected by the law.
“For cutting off our Trade with all parts of the world” Many nations drop the dollar and the trade war is also a kind of cutting of that began with the president. Thus the Donald is cutting off trade with all parts of the world. He creates obstacles for trade no one wants. The only aspect that he isn’t isolating is military force around the globe. Soon the (petro)dollar will nose dive and still no one stops the idiot. A new global economical crisis will happen soon.
“For imposing Taxes on us without our Consent.” Well does the tax break for the rich count as such? Or does the enormous amount of money for the military (the USA during Obama and Bush already spending more on that than the next several countries, including China, Russia and India, combined) make sense in the light of local needs like better healthcare, education and infrastructure. Perhaps another one missing in the declaration is “For cutting us of from the truth” and I mean here both Trumps attacks on the media and the manipulation by the mainstream media by corporate interests.
“For depriving us in many cases, of the benefit of Trial by Jury” How many people are locked up without any clear reason? How many people haven’t been heard? The number is astonishing, even when you consider illegal immigrants guilty of something, way too many people sit in jail without any hearing or justice.
“For transporting us beyond Seas to be tried for pretended offenses.” I think Guantamo Bay is not enough of an example. But the fact that the USA has the largest prison population globally, even bigger than India and China, who have way bigger populations, there’s clear reason to suggest pretended offenses. And these prisoners might not be oversea, they sure are disconnected from their families as visiting rights are declined or diminished into inhuman levels.
“For abolishing the free System of English Laws in a neighboring Province, establishing therein an Arbitrary government, and enlarging its Boundaries so as to render it at once an example and fit instrument for introducing the same absolute rule into these Colonies.” I don’t know about this one. But it’s hard to disavow others for what you do yourself. The treatment of Puerto Rico, and even Hawaii or Native Americans surely show terrible double standards.
“For taking away our Charters, abolishing our most valuable Laws and altering fundamentally the Forms of our Governments.” Tell me, is he doing that? He allows to GOP to cheat more and more in every election, from Gerrymandering to blacklisting to closing polling stations. And it’s clearer and clearer the laws don’t apply to the elite, unless like Epstein you get caught too redhanded. But then he dies before being able to point fingers. Mmm.
“For suspending our own Legislatures, and declaring themselves invested with power to legislate for us in all cases whatsoever.” Trump always seeks routes around congress and senate with presidential decrees.
“He has abdicated Government here, by declaring us out of his Protection and waging War against us.” Who doesn’t feel safe to speak out freely? What minorities, people with aspirations like everyone, don’t feel protected by their president? Who feels waged war upon, even when thus far done with injustice, by trigger happy police, enforced poverty, lack of legal protection against misuse by powerful corporations, let alone housing owners or the incapability to face another setback like disease or accident?
“He has plundered our seas, ravaged our coasts, burnt our towns, and destroyed the lives of our people.” Trump allows, like all former presidents, corporations to plunder the seas, ravage the coasts (through worsening super storms and not building protections against the sea, ask New Orleans) burn our towns (California) and destroyed the lives of our people. (Or is everyone who is homeless or lives out of their car to blame themselves? Not comparing their numbers to any other rich country in the world.) Trump lets the corporations plunder the land, ravage nature (parks) and denies climate change, which leads to more and more disasters. And that’s not even mentioning the plunder by the banks and the absurd low wages that many people need 3 jobs to provide for their family.
“He is at this time transporting large Armies of foreign Mercenaries to complete the works of death, desolation, and tyranny, already begun with circumstances of Cruelty & Perfidy scarcely paralleled in the most barbarous ages, and totally unworthy the Head of a civilized nation.” More and more American (mercenary) armies and drones doing work of death, desolation and tyranny in Yemen and still mostly hidden, more and more in Africa, let alone still hurting more innocents than terrorists in Iraq and Afghanistan. Also USA meddling in Brazilian politics may have led to rightwing power, seeking to chop up the whole Amazon, which is a global (not national) source of oxygen for the world. This will increase global warming much faster.
“He has constrained our fellow Citizens taken Captive on the high Seas to bear Arms against their Country, to become the executioners of their friends and Brethren, or to fall themselves by their Hands.” One could say ordering the police to enforce the law, ordering the EPA to stop function, using pressure on many professionals to work against their own and the US citizens interests is deeply painful to watch. Also lobbyists furthering fracking can be seen as executioners of their friends, and the pressure here is money, paid by international corporations, that have no loyalty to the USA or the global population.
“He has excited domestic insurrections amongst us, and has endeavored to bring on the inhabitants of our frontiers, the merciless Indian Savages whose known rule of warfare, is an undistinguished destruction of all ages, sexes and conditions.” Times have changed. It is now the Native Americans that still suffer discrimination, injustices and conscious pestering, along with an increasingly number of minorities. One could say Trump has exited domestic insurrections, with the growth of hate violence.
“In every stage of these Oppressions We have Petitioned for Redress in the most humble terms: Our repeated Petitions have been answered only by repeated injury. A Prince, whose character is thus marked by every act which may define a Tyrant, is unfit to be the ruler of a free people.” People have protested, but Trump isn’t listening or negotiating. He just lies he delivered the best people can get and everyone who disagrees is fake. A huge majority of US citizens want different politics, like free healthcare and free education. They ain’t getting it, despite their calls. Because the systems doesn’t represent the people, it represents corporate interests. What do you think?
So, now what?
So, if you US citizens are real about your heritage, about your freedom, about being the home of the brave, then I think there’s work to be done. But then I’m just a foreigner staring with bewilderment at your current events. I know most of you do so too. In that you probably are in an overwhelming majority. The question is how to make that work, as peacefully and yet urgently as possible? Waiting for a next election, being manipulated by the GOP and corporate democrats might be too late.
But don’t mind me. I’m a foreigner from a small country. I have no right to speak, except as a global citizen who got hit hard by the 2008 crisis, which rocked the world. I hope we can prevent something way worse. And Trump sure is heading the world that way. Consumer rights gone. Education damaged. Police shootings gone up, as has white terrorism. Fracking, destruction of nature, protection of climate, all worsened, etc.
Note:
The following was meant to hold up a mirror to the country I was raised to see as a herald for freedom and morals around the world. In the last decades it has become the perpetrator of wars on dubious to false grounds (Iraq, Syria, Yemen), created a new cold war with Russia, started trade wars and has becomes one of the biggest obstacles to stop Global Warming. This already has cost the USA (read taxpayers) billions, let alone costs thousands loss of house, goods and or lives. And sure as hell, the biggest offenders aren’t paying for the damages. They get tax breaks. And the fracking continues. I also got signs of some US citizens who fear to speak out. They daren’t discuss the following openly. That too worries me deeply. Thus as a foreign individual I implore all Americans to consider the following for the future of our planet and your own freedom. You, Americans, should of course in no way feel compelled to listen to a foreigner. Rather listen to your own most holy words: the Declaration of Independence.
