Algeria and Colombia file complaints against Israel in ICC
Israel has killed 11000 people in Gaza, including 4506 children. Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune has urged the International Criminal Court (ICC) to take measures to hold Israel accountable for its crimes against Palestinians in Gaza.

Tebboune stated that “in Palestine under occupation, all human, moral, religious, and legal standards and values have crumbled due to the brutal massacres carried out by the occupying forces against the Palestinian people.” He is aware that the world witnesses these horrors regularly, but there is a horrific worldwide silence. He sees no global conscience, which has become absent regarding the genocide being committed in Gaza.
Colombia will help with the complaint that Algeria will file before the ICC. President Gustavo Petro stated that his government’s legal teams are preparing lawsuits to file before all international courts. The lawsuits will be against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Israel. In a post published on X, he said, “Colombia’s Foreign Minister will meet tomorrow with the prosecutor of the International Criminal Court”. President Gustavo has been a true defender of Palestinian rights. In 2016, he condemned Israel’s genocide toward the Palestinians: “If we have to suspend foreign relations with Israel, we will suspend them. We do not support genocides. The president of Colombia will not be insulted.”
He has urged human rights defenders to come help in defending the Palestinians in Gaza. He stresses that PM Netanyahu is committing a crime against innocent people, including children. He stated, “I urge all free men in the world, Arab jurists, and human rights organizations and agencies to file a complaint before the International Criminal Court and international human rights organizations against the Israeli entity to put an end to decades of impunity for crimes committed against Palestinians.”
President Tebboune has emphasized that the Gaza genocide is a reminder of the massacre that scared the world in the past. He equated the situation to that during World War II in the city of Stalingrad.
A few Palestinian human rights groups have also filed lawsuits against Israel at the ICC. They have called on the court to probe Israel on the allegations of genocide and apartheid. Al-Haq, Al Mezan and the Palestinian Centre for Human Rights have filed lawsuits, emphasizing immediate attention to the continuous Israeli air strikes on Gaza. This, of course, has resulted in the deaths of over 11,000 Palestinian people. The two groups seek the arrest of Israel’s key leaders for facilitating the genocide. They target getting arrest warrants for Israel’s President Isaac Herzog, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and Defense Minister Yoav Gallant.
Previous lawsuit files include one by Reporters Without Borders. A total of 41 journalists have so far been killed in the Israel-Palestine war, which began on October 7. 36 of them are Palestinian reporters killed by Israeli strikes in the Gaza Strip. The court has been showing double standards while relating the situation between Russia and Israel. The rights groups’ lawyer, Emmanuel Daoud, mentioned the ICC’s decision against Russian President Vladimir Putin for war crimes in Ukraine in a recent submission to the court. He said that “there is no room for double standards” and that “whether war crimes are committed in Ukraine or Palestine, the perpetrators should be held accountable.”
