The outcome of the Iranian presidential election will be decided by Khamenei and his cohort, not at the ballot box. They will decide based on how they believe it will affect their ability to enact their agenda. Understanding whom they will choose, therefore requires understanding their interests. This article will present a basic analysis of Khamenei’s decision making calculus as to whom to “elect” as president.
