We are in the era of digitization and it becomes more and more important to consider having some skills in Information and Communication Technologies (ICT). In 2022, several ways are helpful to learn tech for free. So, if you’re looking for such a thing, you’re in the right place; keep reading! In this article, I will share five (05) different tips to guide you on how to learn tech skills for free.

# Tip 1: Do a lot of Internet research

Have you ever heard the expression “Google is your friend”? Even if it is not yet the case, try to make Google your friend. By Google, I mean the research engine and through an Internet connection, you are able to find almost all possible answers to a problem. So, the first way to start learning tech for free is to invest your time in researching online.

Whether you are guided or not the first time, just type something you want to learn and wait to see the tons of results you will get. Most of the time, you will get free as well as paid resources. The most basic free resource you can get online after typing how to learn a tech skill is an article. This can either be published on an individual personal blog or an educational organization website.

Moreover, you have the option to download course files for free. In fact, some lecturers put free access to some of their courses online. If you have a great sense of detail and are strongly focused on the search, you will be fortunate enough to come across one of those pdf, Docx, or ppt files. But before that, it is also important to point out the fact that you need to understand how search engines work. Here are some strategies you can use to make sure you will find a diversity of results after your search.

# Tip 2: Get started with e-learning platforms

It goes without saying that e-learning platforms are very crucial when it comes to learning tech online for free. E-learning platforms are numerous today and offer different types of services. Many of them just require free registration and free access to some courses. Sometimes, you may find some e-learning platforms which will deliver free certificates after course completion.

The most important thing here is the education; the knowledge you get from these websites. In fact, you do not need to rush just to obtain a certificate. It won’t be useful for you because the skills are the things that matter. If you are starting a learning journey in tech, here are some online platforms you could consider :

  • OpenClassrooms
  • Coursera
  • Udemy
  • Udacity
  • Khan Academy
  • Future Learn

Furthermore, you could find other examples of e-learning platforms here. There is a lot of information on those platforms but keep in mind that it’s important for you to choose one and stick to it and complete it efficiently. Otherwise, you can be overwhelmed and learn no skill at the end of the day.

# Tip 3: Make YouTube your friend

YouTube is a social media on which you can watch videos from different people and about several subjects. The good news is that the tech field has quite many videos or tutorials you can watch to learn a specific skill. While some videos have a long length, others are spliced down by the Youtuber to make the learning easy for the learner.

To get started, just type your “specific concern or the skill you want to learn“ in the search bar and wait for the different results that come out.

# Tip 4: Be active on social media

When I say Be active on social media, I really mean it. But it depends on the content you’re looking for. The ones that are recommended are LinkedIn and Twitter. On these two social media platforms, you have the possibility to follow every person skilled in the domain you would like to explore.

By following them, it’s like you’re filtering your timeline according to what you want. Thus, you will regularly see posts and resources shared by those people. If you find a post, content, or link useful to you, it is highly appreciated that you share it so that other people can benefit from it. You know what they say: “Sharing is caring”.

# Tip 5: Practice with consistency

At the end of the day, it lies in your hands whatever you would love to be skilled at in tech. This means even if you get a ton of resources, and you do not practice what you read and learn on a consistent basis, you will end up knowing nothing. So, practice is the key and you absolutely need it to improve your skills.

You learn through practice so I advise you to download that editor or IDE (Integrated Development Environment) and get started with programming. Or, go ahead and install that Photoshop software and start creating beautiful and appealing visuals.

As always, continue to spread love and keep on moving!
