A perfect Duluth summer night. Shorts and a sweatshirt. The sound of waves hitting the shore. The cool breeze on your toes. Craft local beer in hand. Sunset over Lake Superior and… Concerts on the Pier at Glensheen

Concerts on the Pier is a new twist on Glensheen’s Concerts by the Lake series which used the Carriage House lawn as it’s stage for years. Last year marked the first time a band played on the 100-foot pier extending into Lake Superior. This year, all of the bands will perform from Glensheen’s Pier.

A local favorite band, Tin Can Gin was the first band to try out this newfound venue. Between the beautiful weather, unique location and their foot-stomping music… attendance tripled.

It was not just a concert. Concerts on the Pier captured those perfect Duluth summer nights and what we love about this town. Concertgoers lined Glensheen’s Lake Superior shoreline while kayakers and boaters enjoyed the free music from the water.

Don’t have a kayak of your own but want to enjoy the local bands from the water? Day Tripper of Duluth and Duluth Experience are offering kayak tours to Glensheen Wednesday evenings in July.

Who are the bands you ask? The lineup consists of local bands with ties to Duluth all varying in styles of music. Southwire, a alchemical mixture of a folk singer and a rap group kicks off the series on July 1st. Sarah Krueger, a talented song writer who’s made an appearance on American Idol, plays the second Wednesday. Lay Low & Bender, your ‘feel good, swing-rock of the 90’s’ band continues the 3rd night. Big Wave Dave and the Ripples, will bring in that soul/funk/rock/blues with their eight-piece horn band. Finally, Tin Can Gin with their unique bluegrass sound is back for their encore performance to round out the series.

Concerts on the Pier is a celebration of the Lake, local bands, and one of Duluth’s historic locations. So grab some friends and head on down to Glensheen for live music and summer nights by the lake.
