Family-Friendly Summer

We know. It is super tough to bring your children to some places. Glensheen automatically is one of those places you eliminate as a feasible place to go with the little ones.

We are trying to change that. We’ve always been welcoming to kids but this summer we are working hard to make Glensheen more family friendly.

For starters, the tour is self-guided and more interactive than ever! With various stations throughout the mansion highlighting super cool artifacts.

Plus, we’ve added things they can pick up and touch! Did you see the stereoscope above? The stereoscope shows 3-D images of historic Glensheen. Kids love it!

Here is the plush version of the real-live fox that frequents the Glensheen estate in late fall and early winter. He hung around so much that Glensheen Staff named him. One of the Congdons’ dogs was named Tim. A fox was about as close to a dog that we would get. Hence, Tim the Fox.

We love Tim the Fox. Which is why he made it into the Treasure Book as the mascot. This Treasure Book is a wonderful addition to the self-guided tour to keep the little ones engaged and excited.

Follow along with Tim the Fox to find all of Glensheen’s keepsakes then receive the master stamp upon your completion!

After, when you need to use the restroom, we have one of these trusty things in each of the men’s and women’s restrooms, just to make your life a little bit easier :)

Photo Tour

What a difference a matter of years makes within an industry. Only a handful of years ago, it was nearly unheard of that a house museum allowed photography. Today, Glensheen embraces photography completely. We now encourage guests to take pictures on tour, and we’ve even created an entire tour for the photo hounds!

The freedom to take pictures in all the most photogenic spots, and the chance to freely experience the Midwest’s most visited House Museum are just a few reasons why the photo tour may be perfect for you. (SIGN ME UP!)

Professional and amateur photographers alike are welcomed. Photo tours are best for those who have toured Glensheen in the past and want to capture its beauty. All types of cameras and tri-pods are encouraged, as both indoor and outdoor locations will be visited.

You will experience spaces like the stunning formal gardens and views of Lake Superior from Glensheen’s 100-foot pier. Guests will also have the chance to capture the crowd-favorite room inside the mansion, the Breakfast Room.

Share your best photos using #glensheen on Instagram for a chance at weekly prizes!

Beer Garden at Glensheen

Well, that was easy. I didn’t even have to tell you anything about it, and you already want to come. So we will see you every Wednesday night in June! Can’t wait to raise a glass to all the wonderful brewers in the Twin Ports.

Extended Tour Hours

June marks the first time ever that Glensheen is giving you the chance to experience a sunrise and sunset all in the same day from our 12-acre estate.

Have you ever wandered out to your car after taking a late afternoon tour and thought, “Jeez… I wish I could just stay a little bit longer.”

Now you can.

An early evening tour is the perfect compliment to our rockin’ Wednesday night event series that we have lined up for you this summer.

Tours are offered until 7 pm. Most Wednesday night events start at 7 pm. How perfect, right? A great tour then a great event, all in one place. We like to think its the best of both worlds.

Sunset Instameet

We are giving you yet another amazing, super sunny inspired experience.

What: Sunset Photo Tour Instameet

When: Saturday, June 10th at 7 pm — 10 pm

Where: Glensheen grounds

Why: To celebrate the new Photo Tour by inviting photographers and the public to have a night at Glensheen to take photos during all stages of sunset. Pre-sunset, sunset, and when our friend, the moon, takes over.

It is free and open to the public.

An evening at Glensheen wouldn’t be complete without a bonfire. So see you in a couple weekends for a wonderful night of photography and fun.

Chester Day

On June 12th, we invite you to celebrate Chester Day with us. It will be the 164th birthday of one of Duluth’s most historically impactful figures, Chester Congdon.

What is arguably more historically impactful is the level of awesome that his mustache achieves.

Hence, those who visit Glensheen on June 12th will be given a free Chester-like mustache, and those who arrive bearing their own Chester-influenced mustache will be given free entry onto Glensheen’s grounds.

On a serious note, Congdon’s achievements are still seen to this day which is the real reason why we celebrate his birthday each year. He was vital to Minnesota’s iron ore industry, founded the North Shore Drive, donated the land that is now Congdon Park, and his Glensheen estate is one of the most important locations for Duluth’s tourism industry.

Bacon, Bloodies & Bingo

We are still working out the details on this one so we will leave you with this picture to let your imagination run wild.

We can’t wait to see you this summer :)
