As August, the king of summer has come to a close, we are looking ahead to the golden hour of seasons… fall. Get ready, we have a few first-time-ever events on the horizon in the coming months.

This is the second ‘Sheener. The ‘Sheener is a trusty, regular event update. (Psst… we dropped the ‘Glen’ and added an ‘er’) Here is what we have queued up for you:

9.7 | Classroom in the Garden
9.14 | Classroom in the Garden
9.21 | Classroom in the Garden
9.27 | Chester Chats: Local Food Movement
9.28 | Classroom in the Garden

Classroom in the Garden
Classroom in the Garden is a brand-new Wednesday night series taking place during the month of September. Glensheen is known for the incredibly, impressive mansion. However, the 12-acre estate is equally cool for reasons like our Vegetable Garden. Which cranks out over 2,000 pounds of produce every year. It gets better, all of the produce is donated to a local food shelf, Second Harvest Food Bank.

Classroom in the Garden takes advantage of this tasty gift right in our back yard. UMD Sous Chef, Daemon will showcase different recipes each week using vegetables from the Glensheen’s Vegetable Garden.

He will literally pull carrots from the ground and pluck corn from its stalk to cook samples right in front of you.

Classroom in the Garden is every Wednesday night in September from 6:00 pm — 7:00 pm. The event is free and open to the public. Small samples will be served.

Chester Chats: Local Food Movement
In recent years, the demand for locally grown food has put pressure on food providers to reassess the food options they present. A local food expert will be here to answer the question of what they are doing to impact the local food movement.

What are Chester Chats?

It is a fun, fast-moving presentation series of three speakers who are each limited to ten minutes. Each month an important topic to the future of Duluth is chosen. To help promote the casual nature of the event, there will be a cash bar with great wine and local beers.

What is the purpose of Chester Chats?

As a past legislator, Chester Congdon was one of Duluth earliest promoters and boosters. He spent much of his fortune and time not only making Duluth better for all but also, to let the rest of the world know how amazing it is.

So in that tradition, Glensheen created a series to help educate the public on important subjects relevant to the prosperity of Duluth.

Presentations will be held in Glensheen’s Amusement Room in the lower level of the mansion. Guests will enter through the mansion’s front door.

Doors open at 6:45 p.m.
Happy half hour from 7–7:30.
Speakers begin at 7:30.
This event is free to the public.
