This former industrial center on the Guaíba River retains little commercial activity in the historic buildings and warehouses constructed during its heyday in the early 20th century. The project aims to reclaim this important part of the city by transforming the area (892ha) into an innovative ecosystem of private companies, educational institutions, public entities, and the local community. It would catalyze broader economy activity and integrate vulnerable populations. Through the use of new technologies in the areas of public health, information, and communication, the revitalization project will generate opportunities for new businesses and employment, especially for the city’s younger workforce, and incorporate them further into the life of the city.

Investment/Partnership Opportunity: Economic Plan development

The first phase of this project — a development of the district’s architecture plan — the Masterplan, has already been developed in partnership with the City Hall of Port Alegre and the Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS). The city is currently seeking to develop the project’s Economic Plan with potential support from the World Bank.
