104 — Think for Yourself

Take a slightly above average song, throw in some harmonic touches that would make The Beach Boys jealous and tie it all together with a sound like no other — and that is one way to create a memorable classic.

Recording Notes

Think for Yourself was written by George Harrison. The lyrics are a departure from the sunny-love lyrics that were more typical of the times. Harrison himself had described the song as targeting something or somebody, although he would claimed to not remember the target of his wrath. Still, I see little point in speculating as to what motivated Harrison. Perhaps he was just a fan of James Bond movies — often full of tales of revenge and I told you so type moments.

Think for Yourself was recored in November 1965 as part of the mad rush to release a soon to be lauded Christmas album, Rubber Soul. Rubber Soul, with Think for Yourself on board, was released in December 1965.

Featured Players

The line-up for Think for Yourself is not too unusual, although there are a few notable quirks.
