In order to prevent confusion and avoid any misconception regarding the differences between cards in terms of their availability to interact with, it is essential to refer to them with names explicit to each to remain accurate and easy to understand.

The factors I identified a card can be distinct to another in a degree that requires to be referred with its own name a player can play with are listed below in a hierarchical way, that a type after another type includes the availability of the previous.

  1. deckable cards are available for a user to construct a deck with.
  2. forgable* cards are the ones rewarded for playing, at the time of opening a reward pack, these cards have not yet been recorded in the blockchain and it exists within the game only, but carries the ability to be “forged”, meaning minting a nonfungible token which is representing the ownership of the subject cards recorded in the blockchain.
*may need to revisit “forgable” cards as it may also refer to the process, when cards are evolved to a better quality like shadow, gold or diamond. In that case, the term “forgable“ card is no longer explicitly refer to a type, but two different types.
  3. transferable cards are the “all green” cards, it can be traded and play with by its owner and the only stage a card can be locked for rent.

With using the combination of above three properties as a permission or restriction, I identified the below distinct card types:

  • inmatch-only cards (Favour Draws and Activated Random Draws)
    not deckable
    not forgable
    not transferable
  • play-only cards (Starter Set)
    deckable
    not forgable
    not transferable
  • core-pack cards (Core Set opened from reward packs)
    deckable
    forgable
    not transferable
  • onchain cards (aka minted NFTs)
    deckable
    forgable
    transferable

So “inmatch-only cards” are not really relevant in the domain of this discourse (yet) but definitely carries potential for a future expansion like a 31st card available for favour or such.
A rented card should behave like a “play-only card”. Though maybe a trinket could be forged, that refers back to the original owner when the rented card is with its temporary user, like a memorabilia or such. It may find good reception among the players and could be a small incentive too.

Locked Cards ↔️ Rented Cards

Only on-chain cards can be “locked” which means that a subject NFT asset becomes no longer transferable in order to guarantee that a card is rented once only at a time and to prevent other unfair complications.

Once a card is locked, the asset will be listed with offered terms (fees and expiration) by its owner. It will become available to other users to borrow a card to play with in exchange of fulfilling the terms until the expiration stated in the terms.

A card that is locked is no longer playable or transferable on the owner side as long as it is locked, a rented card is only exist within the game as a playable copy of the original, it has no provable blockchain representation and it should be destroyed immediately once terms expired.

Locked cards with only expiry terms but 0 rental fees are just a further addition to the possibilities as a prize reward a player can offer as stake to be won by the other player in direct challenges.
