Today we have another instalment in our Ark Community Digest series and this time we have Matthias ‘SuperCool’ with us. He will be here to tell his story of how he got started in this space and where his ambitions will be taking him!
As always if you’re new to this article series, each Monday we talk to an Ark community member and get to know a little bit about them and what made them join the Ark community! We’ve asked a series of questions to Matthias which he has graciously answered below!
What Made You Join The Ark Community?
I had an on & off relationship with cryptocurrencies for a few years when one day I decided that it was time to get back in to the swing of things and knuckle down on learning about everything and anything crypto!
I feel a little ashamed of what happened next but, I joined the Ark community after multiple people shilled it to me on Reddit. I stayed because of the easy going people and the willingness of almost everyone to share their knowledge on Ark and other projects. Ark houses some truly awesome people whom I have been very grateful to get to know!
What Got You Into Cryptocurrencies In The First Place?
The idea of making a lot of money was definitely the first thing that got me in. I had some friends who traded Bitcoin and they seemed to be doing pretty well but I got truly hooked when I read ‘The internet of money’ by ‘Andreas Antonopoulos’. This is a book I would recommend to anyone and after reading it was also the moment when making money became secondary and engaging in the community as a whole and promoting the idea of Bitcoin became my biggest reason to continue with crypto.
What’s Your Background & What Are Your Hobbies?
My background is in sales, marketing, and online media development. I have worked at multiple media company’s, online platforms, and an exhibition organiser.
I think the underlying connection between all these jobs is communication. I love communication because it’s something that can be simple at times but also very complex in its ways, therefore it is definitely my favourite hobby.
I don’t know if you can call it hobbies at this stage of my life but I started playing golf last year and I really like it. I am also a massive speciality coffee fan so I try to visit as many coffee bars as I can.
What’s your Ambition For The Future
I always wanted to be a manager/business leader of a big firm, but about half a year ago ready to get going at a new firm I kind of woke up from that dream to realise that a life like that would be pretty boring. So I quit my job and am now trying to live life by the rule that I only do things that I really like.
And that is definitely my ambition for the future: to have a lot of fun.
My first step is starting my own business. I am almost done setting up my new company called 3109. With this company, I will (hopefully) support early-stage blockchain startups and decentralised protocols with creating community engagement. It has been a very long time since I was this excited and scared at the same time, but I am really looking forward to this!
This will sadly mean that I will stop my duties at The Golden Horde, but I am positive that Jolan, Colby and the rest of the team will make a super-delegate with TGH!
If You Could Think Of One Thing You’d Like To See For Ark, What Would It Be?
I think Ark is already doing very well. But what I think would be interesting is if the deciding power would be shared under multiple development teams. to be clear this is not because I think the Ark team is doing something wrong but I think it would solidify Ark as a true decentralized technology.
Who Is The Person You Look Up To The Most?
I have always liked Bill Gates, I know he was not perfect and sometimes did very dirty business but that also created some very good stories and his philanthropic ventures are really helping many aspects of people’s lives.
I really hope that one day I can make (a lot of) money doing what really fits me to give it all away to those who need it most in the end.
Who Is Your Favourite Ark Community Member & Why?
Well, of course, I really like Colby and Highjacker they have a drive and work ethic that is rare and very hard to keep up with, and that is a very good thing for the Ark community. I would also like to mention John! He is never afraid to ask the questions everyone is thinking and quick with a joke!
Where Do You See The Price Of Ark This Time Next Year?
I would be lying if I had an idea. What I do think is that it will be up, The steps Ark has taking in the last months have been time-consuming but very necessary and in the end, I think well worth it! so I would guess anywhere between 1 and 10 dollars.
You Can Have Your Dream Company Implement Ark’s Tech, Who Would It Be?
I think it would be awesome to see a startup using ark as an internal tool to scale up its business in a super efficient way. off course I will not complain when one of the big four starts using Ark but I will be much happier when a small business is able to utilize its technologies for growing the business.
What Movie Quote Do You Think Could Be Used To Describe Crypto?
“Sounds like big trouble. You’re going to need plenty of legal advice before this thing is over. As your attorney, I advise you to rent a very fast car with no top. And you’ll need the cocaine. Tape recorder for special music. Acapulco shirts. Get the hell out of L.A. for at least 48 hours. Blows my weekend.” -Dr. Gonzo, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas
We’re very grateful to have Matthias on this episode this week and it’s especially poignant to us as this marks the parting of us, The Golden Horde and Matthias as we embark on different journeys. As Matthias mentions he will be setting up a company, 3109 to support blockchain startups and we can absolutely say with his background in communication, his friendly nature, desire to achieve and ambition for this space he will absolutely excel. His presence on TGH has been a great boon and I know we all wish him the very best in his future ventures be them big or small!
We’re sad to see him go but the bright side is that the blockchain space is a small world so as Charles Dickens would say…
The pain of parting is nothing to the joy of meeting again.
Thanks for reading this article folks and we hope you enjoyed hearing Matthias’s story of how he got here and getting to know him more! As always remember to stay tuned each Monday for the latest episodes! Remember also to stay up to date with The Golden Horde on our Twitter!
