Neighbour sodomise seven-year-old boy, held

Accused worked with victim’s mother at construction site

In a shocking incident, a seven-year-old boy was allegedly sodomised by his 27-year-old neighbour, at Uttamnagar, on Tuesday (July 26). The police said that the child sustained injuries, and is undergoing treatment at a private hospital. The police have arrested accused Umesh Vishnu Jadhav, 27, resident of Uttamnagar, who hails from Kurduwadi, Solapur district.

Police sources said that the victim lives at a construction site in Uttamnagar, where his mother and grandmother are daily wage workers. His father had deserted them long ago. The accused also works at the site, and they all live in a temporary shed made for workers, in the parking area of the construction site.

Uttamnagar Police Station Sub Inspector KB Jadhav, who is investigating the case, told TGS that on Tuesday around 8 pm, the accused lured the victim with a promise of chocolate. Then he grabbed the boy and took him to a cement godown. He clamped his hand on the boy’s mouth and committed the unnatural act. The boy did not tell his family about the incident, but his mother wondered why his clothes were torn, his lips were swollen, and he had an injury on his head. Eventually the boy told his mother about what had happened. The mother took him to a private hospital for treatment. The hospital administration informed Uttamnagar police station about the condition of the victim.

Dr Prafulla Tamaskar, who is treating the boy, told TGS that he was bleeding profusely from his private parts when he was admitted. “We could see marks and bruises around his neck, he was hit on his head, and suffered eye injuries. He was disturbed mentally and frightened. Now he is under treatment, his condition is stable, and we have stopped the bleeding. We are sure that he will heal physically, but are concerned about his mental state. He has had a very shocking experience which we fear will leave a mark on his mind,” he said.

The police rushed to the construction site just as the accused was planning to flee, and arrested him. A case was registered at Uttamnagar Police Station under Sections 377 (unnatural offences), 307 (attempt to murder), and 506 (2) (punishment for criminal intimidation) of the IPC and POSCO Act.
