“The wounded child inside many females is a girl who was taught from early childhood that she must become something other than herself, deny her true feelings, in order to attract and please others. When men and women punish each other for truth telling, we reinforce the notion that lies are better. To be loving we willingly hear the other’s truth, and most important, we affirm the value of truth telling. Lies may make people feel better, but they do not help them to know love.” (Hook) This quote stuck with me because I think love is a very strong word to say to somebody. It’s easy to say it to our mom, dad, brother, sister, etc but, saying it to someone we enjoy being around 24/7 and have true feelings for, we often get afraid to say we love you. It’s terrifying to say because we are afraid of the outcome we might get.

I think when we females were younger we would hide who we truly are for someone else. We would change ourselves for a guy to like us. Lies may make people feel better, but they do not help them to know love.” We won’t ever know the true feeling of what it means to be loved or actually loving someone else when we are hiding behind our lies.

I think we should never deny our true feelings. I think we should allow ourselves to open up to being loved instead of being coldhearted. It can be a difficult thing to open up to, that’s why it’s important to open up to the right person.
