Education Nowadays

Education is viewed much differently now than it used to be viewed many years ago. Thinking that education and earning your degree can be unnecessary has become very popular, especially with this generation. Many people have prioritized the idea of getting out of school as quickly as possible and how to get involved in the “real world.” I do not think the problem is the students. Just like how Blum said, “Unexpectedly, I learned to see students in an entirely new way. Instead of seeing them as trying to get away with doing as little as possible, I began to see them as agents trying to get away with doing as little as possible.” I like how Blum is learning from the students and recognizing what they are trying to do, instead of just seeing them as lazy for not approaching school the way students used to. Blum pointed out that she realized it was rare to find students like her who enjoyed and were excited about learning at school. I agree it is rare to talk to someone about school without the word “school” having a negative connotation. I also agree with the statement, “In general, people learn things when they care about them.” When students are forced to put hours and all their energy into something that they find uninteresting, that can be super unenjoyable and mentally draining. When people try to learn things they do not have an interest in, it can be mentally harder to grasp.
