The Good Life Fall ‘23

The reading begins with the statement that people’s nature is naturally bad. I disagree with this statement for a number of reasons. I do not believe that we are inherently born with bad intentions but the environment that surrounds us shapes your nature. There are so many different variables that I believe can contribute to a person’s nature. Someone brought up in the inner city of Chicago is most likely going to have a much different world view then someone raised in the suburbs of Beverly Hills. Other factors like social media or just social interaction in general are also major key factors in the development of someone’s nature. Although I believe ultimately it is a choice to be a good natured person. I think through life experience and time you are able to more clearly understand the difference between good and bad no matter your story or backround. Now that is not to say it is not easier for some to reach these conclusions then others. Someone raised within a happy healthy family will already have so many of these examples set for them while someone who lacks that healthy upbringing will have to learn for themselves. Ultimately it is not as concrete or clear as we may want it to be. Regardless, to carry yourself with good nature and be a good person is something that is attainable for all. No matter your situation or upbringing I believe we should all be striving to be the very best person that we can be everyday we are on this earth.
