“Those who are not angry at the things they should be are thought to be fools, and so are those who are not angry in the right way, at the right time, or with the right persons; for such a man is thought not to feel things nor to be pained by them, and, since he does not get angry, he is thought unlikely to defend himself; and to endure being insulted and put up with insult to one’s friends is slavish. (NE 1126a3–8)”

This quote stuck with me but also tripped me up because I think what Tessman meant in this quote is why are humans not angry at the things they should be angry at? Why are some humans not feeling the pain, anger, and emotion that others may feel? I think our nation in the past has a good way of expressing how others may feel when it comes to the riots, politics, etc. It shows how people have different viewpoints on things. We tend to get angry when things don’t go as planned. And not knowing what to expect and what to do can tend to be very stressful.

So when she said for such a man is thought not to feel things nor to be pained by them, and, since he does not get angry, he is thought unlikely to defend himself; and to endure being insulted and put up with insult to one’s friends is slavish” she means that It is believed that the good-tempered man fails further in the direction of deficiency because he tends to be unbothered and not be driven by passion, but to be angry in the manner, at the things, and for the length of time that the rule dictates. The good-tempered man is not vengeful but instead tends to make allowances.
