The Good Life: Spring 2024
2 min readMar 5, 2024

For this week’s reading, I want to focus on page 146 towards the end. This is where the reading talks about how logotherapy teaches three main avenues on which one arrives at meaning at meaning in life. I think it would be cool to break down each one. The first avenue is accomplished by creating a work or doing a deed. To break this down means finding meaning in life through accomplishments and adding positivity to the world and or others. Creating a work, it requires you to engage in art, writing, music, inventions, or any other way you can express yourself. When creating something that has meaning behind it, it feels fulfilling and purposeful. Now doing a deed involves acts of kindness, compassion, generosity, etc… This could make a difference in someone’s day. As for avenue number two,
experiencing something or encountering someone; in other words, meaning can be found not only in work but in love. This emphasizes finding meaning in life through personal experiences or relationships but specifically through love. When it says experiencing something it refers to moments when you feel emotions such as joy, awe, and excitement when connecting with another person that could be a possible companion or friend. Lastly, which is said to be the most important is when it says even a helpless victim of a hopeless situation, facing fate he cannot change may rise above himself, may grow beyond himself, and by so doing change
himself. This highlights the fact that you can find the meaning of life even through the most challenging moments in your life and can grow from it.
