Aristotle believes that everything in the universe has a function, and the function of humans is to act in a way that is guided by reason. Humans have a higher intelligence than other organisms, which allows them to make decisions, do things, and think things that other animals cannot. Humans can take charge of their lives and change what happens more than anything else. For Aristotle, the ‘reason’ that guides humans means forming good habits or character traits. I think that forming good habits and character traits contributes greatly to living a good life and living ‘eudaimonia.’ In my opinion, having good habits enhances a person’s life because they live in a way they believe to be good for them, and each individual’s goals characterize the habits. I think having good character traits helps enhance a person’s life because it allows them to make good decisions and bring people into their lives that help them be happy and possibly even thrive. I also believe that good habits and good character traits can coincide with each other. I think that to have good habits, one must have good character traits. To adopt a good habit, one must think about what they want to change, how they will change it, and why they want to change. I think having good character traits involves self-awareness and the ability to self-reflect, which involves looking at your life and acknowledging what you want to change, how you’re going to change it, why you’re going to change it, and how it will better your life.
