In Buddhism they believe to truly be enlightened one must be able to detach from all worldly things, but how effective is this virtue when it is actually acted out. Non-attachment can help relieve stress from people’s lives as they can free themselves from worrying about what they cant control or fix and giving them a clear mind. They can spend more time focusing on what is truly in their control and bettering themselves and their lifestyle. It can also allow people to realize they are much more than their material possessions as well as their accomplishments, which can allow us to be fully present in the moment and grateful for what we do have. On the other hand, non-attachment can negatively impact one’s relationships with other people. Non-attachment can cause feelings of want and desire to suffer, which can cause relationships to feel less meaningful and fulfilling. Detaching from all worldly items includes loved ones and children, which makes it harder to develop true intimate relationships with people and can drive the people around you away as they wont feel truly cared for. Non-attachment can also make it more difficult to get passionate about a skill or topic causing you to feel lost or aimless since it is difficult to feel any gratification doing something you are not attached to.
