A desire to pray more is a godly desire, but desire alone does not lead to action. Prayer and intercession is spiritual work. Spontaneous, “Spirit-led” prayer is great, but if we rely on spontaneity, we will forget and lose track of what to pray for. The solution is to create a plan as we do with other important things in our lives. Creating a plan doesn’t make us less spiritual. It makes us more consistent.

For this plan, make a list of all the things you want to pray for regularly. Start with at least seven, one for each day, and then divide it up amongst the week. By creating a plan, we can consistently pray for many things every week. It can also be helpful to make a daily prayer list for your most urgent and important prayer needs.
