This weekend many of us raised a glass to our new King and Queen. Privy as we were to the ceremony itself, only a lucky few were invited behind the scenes to join in a royal banquet to celebrate the inaugural coronation. Following tradition, King Charles offered coronation guests a Croatian 2019 vintage Traminac semi-sweet white wine from the Ilocki Podrumi Domain. The same type of wine served at Queen Elizabeth II’s coronation 70 years ago.

As the only official announcement, we can only surmise what other tipples passed the King and queen’s lips over the Coronation weekend.
History has it that guests toasted Edward VII’s coronation with Mumm Cordon Rouge. George VI celebrated with grand cru Burgundy, light Golden Sherry, Coningham’s Three Star Ruby Port, and the finest vintage Liebfraumilch. Did history repeat itself? Or did Charlie open the doors for some of our most talented and deserved British winemakers to showcase their wines?

Rumour has it that Cornwall’s Camel Valley sparkling wine cases were delivered to two royal households before the Coronation weekend. Furthermore, the Vineyard founder and ex-RAF pilot Bob Lindo were invited to the coronation garden party at Buckingham Palace with his wife, Annie.
