3 Easy Ways You Can Participate in the International Virtual Race — Great Climate Race 2016
Plus pro-tips, bonus points and more
The International Virtual Race for the Great Climate Race 2016 starts today (Sunday Oct 23rd)! What does that mean? It means that you can go for a walk or a run anytime from now until the end of this week and be be part of speeding up the transition to 100% renewable energy!
You have three main choices of how to be part of the race.
- The Super Easy Way: All you have to do is go for a walk or run anytime this week (the last week of October) and take a pic. You then either just send that pic back to me via email or post it on social media with the hashtags #GreatClimateRace and #VirtualRace.
2. Compete for Prizes: If you want to compete for the fastest 10k International Virtual Race prizes use a running app (Strava is my favourite) to measure your 10k run and then post it to social media when your done with the hashtags #GreatClimateRace and #VirtualRace. Don’t like hashtags? Just email your results to me at ben@GreatClimateRace.org.
We also have prizes for best costume, having the most fun and biggest team that only require photos, no timing required.
3. Crowdfunding for Solar Projects: If you want to support any of our solar energy projects directly you can create a profile on our website and raise money from your friends and family and other people you know on facebook. :) You can also donate to projects directly on our site if you want. There are prizes for most money raised which individuals and teams in the virtual race and the main event can compete in.
That’s it. Simple right?
Race results will be posted on the race website and all virtual race pics will be incorporated into the social media stream on race day and at the main event in Vancouver.
Bonus Points: Download and print a race bib for yourself.
Write your name and location on it and wear it in your virtual race pics! (you can also make your own with crayons, markers, oil paint or whatever art supplies your heart desires if you prefer).
Pro Tips:
Feel free to post as many virtual pics as you want between now and the main event in Vancouver on Sunday October 30th 12 noon (PST).
You don’t have to time your run or walk to compete in the categories of having the most fun and best costume, biggest team or most money raised by a team or individual. You only need to time your run if you are competing for fastest 10k in the international virtual race.
Feel free to share more than one 10k run you do this week if you want to beat your time by finding a mountain to run down or something. :)
Run with a local running club this week and encourage them to all post pics with the hashtags #GreatClimateRace #VirtualRace (remember its free for everyone to join and you only need to register for the race if you want to compete for prizes or you’re crowdfunding for projects)
You can be on the same team with people in the main events in Vancouver or elsewhere in the world in the Virtual Race. Start a team or join a team and encourage your friends to join you. We have prizes for biggest team too.
IMPORTANT: If you post it on Facebook please tag the Great Climate Race so we see it (type the @ sign before The Great Climate Race and the account should pop up so you can tag us).
Got questions or suggestions or feedback or funny anecdotes? We wanna hear them! Your feedback is appreciated and if you are having trouble getting involved in any way we are here to help.
Have fun out there! I can’t wait to see your pics, thanks for getting involved.
You are helping to spread the word, raise awareness and speed up the transition to renewable energy!
