Just in Time for Earth Day

The Republican Legislature of Idaho has acted just in time for Earth Day! Thanks to these dumb asses, a species that was previously on the Endangered Species List as recently as last year has been made vulnerable again.

Idaho Senate Bill 1247 allows the hire of private contractors for killing wolves in Idaho. The Idaho Senate Resources and Environment Committee has taken advantage of its current majority rule to approve the “disposal” of wolves, a convenient term for extermination. The new legislation allows livestock owners or domestic animal owners to act with impunity in the annihilation of Idaho’s existing wolf population.

When his Democratic colleagues challenged Republican Senator Van Burtenshaw on whether there was anything not allowed in the taking of wolves, the Bill’s sponsor dispassionately explained they only want to manage the wolf population. The conundrum is that the Bill allows the wolf population to be hunted to almost Pre-Endangered Species levels.

The assassination of the wolf population by contract killers for hire could conceivably reduce the number of wolves from 1500 to 150 or less in Idaho. The United States Fish & Wildlife Service could step up and take back control of the…
