Orchids make a stunning gift, especially the beloved Phalaenopsis. But what happens after the blooms begin to fade?

With a bit of mindful care, your orchid can continue to flourish and even bloom again while keeping your gardening practices planet-friendly.

Here’s how to nurture your orchid in an eco-conscious way.

🌞 Light: Bright, gentle sunshine

Orchids naturally grow under tree canopies and prefer filtered, indirect sunlight.

Place your orchid near an east- or north-facing window or behind a sheer curtain to mimic their native conditions.

🌱 Sustainability tip: Use natural light instead of grow lights whenever possible to conserve energy.

💧 Water: Mindfully and moderately

Overwatering is one of the quickest ways to harm an orchid. These epiphytes prefer to dry out slightly between waterings.

  • Water once a week, or when the potting mix feels dry about an inch down.
  • Use room-temperature rainwater or filtered tap water when possible, avoiding waste.
