My friend Paula shared the photo of the viburnum that was already in her driveway when she moved to her home about five years ago.

She estimates that it’s about fifteen years old. It kept growing after she moved, but this year, it went “crazy.” It’s taller and bloomed profusely in the spring.

Viburnums are among the most versatile shrubs, offering many aesthetic and ecological benefits.

These hardy plants are cherished for their beautiful flowers, diverse foliage, and attractive berries, making them a favorite in landscapes and gardens worldwide.

Description and Origin

Viburnum is a genus that belongs to the Adoxaceae family, including shrubs and a few tree species. This name derives from Latin and means wayfaring tree because it used to grow close to paths.

Native to many regions, including North America, Asia, and Europe.

This genus comprises over 150 species that thrive across various climates.
