On January 11th, Billie Eilish posted some photos to Instagram and in the words of Paper magazine: “Broke the internet.” The pictures in question depicted the Therefore I Am Singer decked out in black hair, a short black dress, with a lacy black bra underneath, looking like the Wednesday Addams character. Her fans flocked to her comment section to voice their opinions on Eilish’s new pics, with comments ranging from how her pictures were “giving heroin” and how people needed to leave Billie Eilish alone; as she was just displaying her artistic side with her interesting choice of photos. The question still boiled down to “Is Billie Eilish using substances?”

The answer is most likely no. Billie is someone who has gone on record multiple times saying how she doesn’t use drugs and how she “doesn’t want her friends to die anymore” from drug overdoses. Her anti drugs attitude is reflected in her music as well because on her song xanny, Billie sings about how she “doesn’t need a xanny (xanax) to feel better” and to “not give me a xanny now or ever.” Also, Billie has good people around her, like her older brother Finneas to keep her away from such vices.
The photos Billie posted are just another example of the artist’s creativity. She’s been known to have an eccentric sense of style, repopularizing the baggy clothes look of the early 2000s. This incident seemed to be a misunderstanding between fans who think that a zany personality that radiates what gen z’ers have dubbed “crackhead energy” equals being on drugs. As of this piece, Billie has yet to comment on these pictures, despite fans begging the artist to clear the air on whether she’s using drugs or not.
