CBS3 Studio is a well-known news channel providing on-going events such as: weather, breaking news, and traffic updates. CBS3 allowed Professor Gail Ramsey’s class to take a tour of the studio to catch a glimpse of what happens behind the scenes of the countless broadcasts from the Philadelphia based studio. The tour gave the students access throughout the different control rooms. The tour was led by Danielle Nic a former intern at CBS3. She conducted the studio tour providing the students with background information about the company. Students walked throughout the building learning about the many jobs, and people behind them, that makes the news available to the public.

The class was greeted by both anchors that host the noon show: Janelle Burrell and Jim Donavan. The duo granted the class access to a live taping of the show. When the students walked into the studio, there were many cameras and lights guided by robots to achieve different camera angles. During the show, Burrell and Donovan were delighted to have the students observe them; opening an opportunity for the students to ask questions during the commercial breaks.

After the show concluded, Burrell and Donovan sat down and had a deep discussion about the student’s futures. They gave the students insight to their backgrounds and how they were able to overcome different obstacles to have a job they love doing.

Donovan told the students “work hard, get internships because they are very important to building your resume and getting your dream job”.

Burrell also gave some words of wisdom to the students as well “never give up, apply to as many internships as possible because it only takes one yes, to open a whole new opportunity”.
