Chestnut Hill women’s soccer has not gotten off to the start that they wanted, providing a 1–8 record so far this season. However, they are upbeat and motivated to turn their season around with stellar play in the second half of the season.

“The season is off to a rocky start, but we’re looking to collect some wins on the road as we look to the second half of the season,” said senior goalkeeper Meghan Guagenti.

Senior defender Kiersten Cobb-Wilkins also believes that the key to turning the season around will be by winning games away from home.

“Although our record and stats are not how we would like them, the season is just hitting the half way point and we still have time to re-group and bring home some wins on the road,” said Cobb-Wilkins.

While the Griffins have had their struggles, the team has accepted the coaching staff’s challenge of bettering their focus on the specifics of their game plan. The increase in focus has produced more scoring opportunities for the team and has put them in a better position to win more games.

One aspect of the team’s game that needs to get better in order to finish this season strong is scoring.

“We need to capitalize on our scoring opportunities more often,” says Cobb-Wilkins.

Guagenti seconded this notion.

“I think we just need to find the back of the net more, we’re defending well and taking shots but some just aren’t going our way,” she said.

Despite the second half being road game heavy, one game that has the team excited is the Oct. 18 game against crosstown rival Jefferson University. This matchup is important because it might have playoff implications.
