Wizards and muggles are different in their family dynamic. To be a wizard, a child is born with abilities. The abilities come out through the unconscious: being sad, angry or upset. Muggles, however, are not born with special knowledge, but have to learn. Although Harry Potter goes to school in the wizard world to learn, he learns how to control the unconscious. Muggles do not learn about the unconscious but learn about the concrete world around them through the environment in which they live in. Wizards are nature since they are born wizards, while muggles are nurture since they learn knowledge.

Harry Potter, a wizard, and Dudley Dursley, a muggle, are very different in how they were raised even though they were raised in the same house. Harry lived underneath the stairs in a closet while Dudley got a room upstairs. Eventually, Dudley moves into the biggest room. Harry Potter was not the favorite child because he wasn’t the Dursley’s. They knew he was a wizard and thought of him as a “freak”. Dudley was cherished like he was a King. The treatment of wizard and muggles are divided. Harry is raised into a muggle world but was born in the wizard world.

Because wizards are born to be wizards, they are nature. Yet, wizards have their own level of wizards being nature and nuture. For example the difference of Harry Potter and Neville Longbottom is through the nature verse nurture technique. Harry Potter did not know his parents who were true blooded wizards and very prestigious but grew up with muggles who locked him up in the closet beneath the stairs. Neville Longbottom also had prestigious parents and grew up without parents since they went to an insane asylum due to Death Eaters torturing them into insanity. Longbottom knows he is a wizard because his grandma who he lives with proceeds to teach him some simple magic and is very hard on him since he had such parents. However, Harry Potter does not know he is a wizard until Hagrid comes to get him from the Dursleys. Yet, Harry Potter is the chosen one. In the wizard world, Harry Potter is seen as nature and Neville Longbottom is nurture.

I got to looking into Neville Longbottom and he is very similiar to the character Dudley Dursley. In fact, Dudley Dursley is the mirror of Neville Longbottom due to their familial history and personal background. Dudley is an alter ego of Neville. Dudley is spoiled and bathes in attention from his parents acting as a child. Neville, however, deals with his hard grandma by ruining the reputation of his parents by being a struggling successful wizard. Neville is seen as a popuous jerk but is viewed in his world as an amazing person. Dudley is a bully while Neville is the victim of bullies. Dudley is the complete opposite of Neville in every aspect. Neville fights Death Eaters while Dudley is saved from Death Eaters. Therefore, Neville and Dudley are nuture.
