Communicating Effectively in Social and Business Environments

Personal encounters are inevitable if you want to lead the life of a young aspiring entrepreneur. Life is truly filled with unpredictable circumstances, you never know who, or what situation you will run into. With that being said, personal branding (the way you choose to present yourself) is vital. Not only in the world of business but in your everyday life. You may not know it yet, but that class you decided to show up late to, guess what… there is a guest speaker who wants to invest in young entrepreneurs and help them grow and succeed. In turn, by showing up late you communicated to that person that you may not be the top tier candidate… even though you just may be.

Social communication

Bottom line is no matter what you do or where you go, people are always watching. So why not show them who you are, the real you, the person that not everyone gets to see. This version of you is probably your favorite, and often times it is the best. Dress respectfully, I’m not saying wear a suit 24/7 even when you are running to the store to grab some milk and eggs for mom, use your own good judgement. Social communication is all about your personal brand. So talk to the “weird kid” in class, I bet they lowkey have a really cool personality and some great ideas. Engage in conversation with anyone you run into, I bet you won’t regret it. It all comes down to being friendly, respectful, and keeping that million dollar smile on your face at all times.

Business and Work Communication

I wanted to talk a little about this topic for a couple reasons as it is extremely important to me and should be to you as well. Let’s say you have this product or service and this product or service is a solution to one of the many problems in our dysfunctional crazy awesome beautiful world. Chances are you’ve thought of this idea in great detail and have began to pursue it in full. You go to one of these start up events and plan on winning first prize and a crucial investment for your venture. Now you present your idea to these people who have already done what your ultimate goal is. You present the idea and the general concept is accepted by the judges, however your presentation was mediocre at best, your slides looked decent and you are not very good with words, you lose the contest with the best idea but the worst presentation. Do you see what I’m getting at here??? Communication is key… I’ll say it again COMMUNICATION IS KEY. I harp on it with my team almost every time we meet. If you are not capable of communicating your ideas effectively, you lose. Be yourself and learn to communicate with people, you will learn more and you will become better at this so called game of life.

PEACE OUT
