Imagine this…

You are on a field, a wide-open field as far as the eye can see.. The first thing you see is a butterfly flying across your view, but you have no idea where it is going. The gentle melody of the rustling grass harmonizes with the breeze blowing in your face. You are in awe of the beauty that is taking place, the sun slowly moving towards the horizon and the colours in the sky are starting to getting richer. You take in a scent. It is the scent of rain. Time seems to lose its grip as minutes slip away like seconds. A deep sense of fulfillment comes over you as you take it all in.

As the smell of rain is getting increasingly stronger — a tingling sense of unease washes over you. You start to notice a dark cloud approaching. You hear a quiet roaring of thunder in the distance. It is probably going to rain. You start making your way back, heading in the opposite direction of the dark cloud. But there is nowhere to go. You look out to where the sun was, but clouds have already covered it. Suddenly, a large gust of wind attacks you from behind. It is cold. You walk faster and faster, now sprinting. But to no avail. The dark cloud you saw in the distance is now right above your head.

As you are running it starts gushing rain, each droplet like a needle to your forehead. Every direction you look seems dark and hopeless. The once gentle breeze has transformed into a fierce, howling wind, lashing against your face and making it hard to breathe. The distant rumble of thunder intensifies into a deafening roar that shakes your bones, and every step you take seems to be a struggle against an invisible force as if the very air itself is pushing you back. Now standing still you look around, and take note that there is no end in sight.. You cower down and hide your face in your lap, but the rain is a sting to your back. A prayer goes out from your lips. And as you mumble your last line the unexpected happens… The rain suddenly stops.

With your face still hidden away, a moment of realization takes place as it got really quiet. You don’t dare to look up. You feel your wet shirt tightly pressed against your back and the droplets on your forearms slowly dripping off. But as you carefully lift your head out of bravery, your face lights up! The is sun radiating against your face as you begin to feel its warmth. In the distance, a rainbow forms, its vibrant colours arching gracefully across the sky. It’s a symbol of hope, reminding you that even after the stormiest of times, there can be beauty and a promise on the other side. Your heart swells with gratitude for this magical moment, and you find yourself smiling, despite the lingering dampness. You stretch out your arms, embracing the beauty and wonder as if this breathtaking moment was orchestrated just for you.

This is a parable of how our mind works. Most of us can relate to the weather suddenly changing. Things in our life can often turn on a dime. But when everything seems out of control and there is nothing you can do, in the end, it is our faith that will remain and keep us from going under. With the right belief — you can control your mind.
