Medium Beginners Step by Step Guide, Start to Success
Join Medium as a Writer from Any Country Around the Glove, Including Stripe Unsupported Countries
There are many ways to make money online but the quickest way to build passive income is Medium. Your earning is calculated based on reading time instead of views or claps (similar to Facebook like). Higher the traffic you receive, more followers you build, chances for your articles to get more engagement, will increase. It seems difficult for a new writer to accomplish this but here i’ll share some Tips for writing to see more success right from the beginning and some Tricks to get a good amount of traffic and engagement. Not only for the short term but also for the long term.
“The key to financial freedom and great wealth is a person’s ability or skill to convert earned income into passive income and/or portfolio income” -Robert Kiyosaki
Medium: To some, a writing or blogging platform with a different name tag or a social publishing platform for that is open to all writers and readers and home to a diverse array of stories, ideas, and perspectives. Whatever you call it, to me it is “freedom”, where I can share my thoughts, what i want to share anyway. Besides they allow anyone from anywhere to sign up, post an article and start earning immediately. That is amazing.
Join Medium: It’s a three step process.
First to join medium click get started. Then select Facebook, Google or any other API to log in. Now select the medium partnership program from drop down menu by clicking the profile icon.
Second step is providing payment information. Medium processes their payment through stripe. Stripe is currently operating in 41 countries. If you live in one of those countries then you will not have any problem finding your country. But if you are not, then select United States as country and in mobile number you will find your own country code there, select it and type your phone number. For entity select individual and in email give the same email you used for sign up. Now they will send a verification code in your phone and an email in your email. Verify it.
Now provide your Bank information; Your Account Number, Bank routing. If you have a US bank account that’s great, if not you can still receive a virtual US bank account by signing up in “Payonner” a global payment service (It’s free).
Lastly Provide your Tax information if you are a US citizen then US Tax identification information, if not provide a foreign Tax identification number. You can escape this step for now but you must fill it out and if your country doesn’t have a Tax Treaty with the United States, Medium will withhold 30% of your payment.
Disclaimer: Medium does not recommend this method.
Congratulations, you completed the joining process, now you can share your stories and Start earning right away as part of “Medium Metered Paywall”.
Here are some key notes that can help you to get started.
Tips For Articles:
· For one article using one big idea, work best in medium. It also makes it much easier to organize and finish more quickly.
· Start from broad than narrow it down; for example first define your idea, then go to the pacific part of the idea or problem you want to solve or share your thought and finish it with an uplifting massage like, an example or quote or what best for you particular article (make sure reader left with a spark).
· To make it quick I like (dictate note/create notes with my voice) to record the audio then use “Google audio/speech to text” to generate a text file and then email it to myself. That way I have my entire content ready for editing, very quickly. It also give me versatility and flexibility. I can do it from any place anytime I like. All I need is my phone.
· Write a catchy Headline and take some time to find the best feature image for your article. To do the research use Twitter Trend and Quora. For me this two are the quickest, precise and highest value providers. Remember to get the audience (reader), your headline and cover image done the 80% of your work.
· Including any of these three things increases your chance of getting Curated (in short, CURATION is the process where Medium decides to expose your article to a wide number of audience or not). 1. Educate (A knowledge that will add some value in their life), 2. Inspire (to be a better version of them-self), 3. Provide an Escape (If you are writing on Culture, Literature or Sci-Fi then give them a chance to get lost within your article/story).
· Use infographic, it helps readers to digest your information. You can use Canva where you will find tons of FREE templates to choose from and make infographic in your tropic in less than 10 minutes.
· At the end of your article, let the readers know how they can connect with you for any query. And you must follow at least one medium publication guideline.
Quick tricks to get more views:
· Grab thread link of your medium post and post it in Facebook medium group.
· Instead of just posting the link, ask an engaging question followed by your link.
· If you are a beginner write it for a smaller publication, they are less picky meaning you have a higher chance of getting accepted.
· Tagging people within your article will notify those people you tagged, which means they might become a reader of your story.
· If you are able to approach the right group of people on LinkedIn, you will see a significant amount of traffic within a short period of time.
· You can create a medium publication and convert a single reader to read multiple of your posts.
· Cross refer to your articles within your article. This trick also has the potentiality to make a single reader read more than one of your articles.
· No matter what topic you have written, you are probably going to find a Question on that topic on Quora. Go there and answer that question and don’t forget to mention the article you have written on that topic. This will help you to build consistent traffic for a very long time.
Remember: How much money you can make using you writing skills! There is no known answer to that. Don’t get to crazy and always keep in mind “Every Good Thing Takes Time”
“Just because you are struggling doesn’t mean you are failing” -Marilyn Monroe
Make sure to provide better work for your reader consistently. You can do this by joining different writer’s community and keep some time to read Newsletter, Articles and Books so that you will always have fresh ideas and different perspectives on things.
