Deborah Huber discusses gun violence awareness in Haddonfield.
Why are there orange ribbons gracing Kings Highway? I’m glad you asked. Orange is the bold color chosen to represent the Gun Violence Awareness campaign sponsored by national organizations such as, MOMS Demand Action for Gun Sense in America and EVERYTOWN For Gun Safety (established after the brutal slaying of so many at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut).
The Haddonfield Commissioners proclaimed June 2 as Gun Violence Awareness Day in Haddonfield and participated in a gathering in front of Borough Hall to read the proclamation. The proclamation included the statistic that 91 Americans lose their lives each day to gun violence in America and that a person is 25 times more likely to be victim of gun violence in America than in any other developed nation.
The local chapter of MOMS Demand Action For Gun Sense in America holds monthly meetings on the first Thursday of every month (except August) at 7 p.m. at the Collingwood Library. The next meeting is July 6. Please come and hear what the MOMs organization is all about and bring a friend or two. You can also access information on Facebook and at momsdemandaction.org.
