Lutheran Church of Our Savior starts music series March 20
The Lutheran Church of Our Savior here will launch the first of three performances in its 2016 LCOS Music Series on March 20 at 4 p.m. when the Arcadian Trio will present “Music with a French Twist.”
The performance is a juxtaposition of the surprising and familiar French music from the late 19th and early 20th centuries, with music by Debussy, Chaminade, Faure and Ravel. The program will explore the development of the French sound during this period.
“Music with a French Twist” will be enhanced by a power point presentation of historic images and commentary that will put the music into context and will highlight significant aspects of the composers’ lives.
The Arcadian Trio features pianist Diane Goldsmith and two of the most in-demand string players in greater Philadelphia — violinist Igor Szwec and cellist Vivian Barton Dozor.
The group has been featured on prestigious concert series throughout the region, presenting themed programs that Goldsmith has developed. They often include commentary and, in some cases, a multimedia format with images.
There will be a reception following the performance. A free-will offering will help fund future concerts at LCOS.
The second of the LCOS Music Series will be the Faure “Requiem,” featuring the LCOS Adult and Youth Choirs accompanied by soloists and orchestra, on Sunday, April 17 at 4 p.m.
The third performance in the series will be the Christian Community Choir, a highly touted adult and children’s choir from Central New Jersey. That concert will be Saturday, April 30 at 7 p.m.
All performances in the Music Series will be in the newly renovated Sanctuary of the Lutheran Church of Our Savior, located at 204 Wayne Ave. The 2016 LCOS Music Series is generously sponsored by the church’s Memorial Gifts Board
