Not to late to join the parade

The Haddonfield Celebrations Association meets many times each year to plan the events for the borough holiday celebrations. Each year we try to offer the finest fireworks display and parade ever. All the old favorites are included, like the antique cars and the floats and bike participants. We often speak of how it reminds us of River City, Iowa, in “Music Man” and what we can do to make it more fun and have more participants. “Music Man” is making a revival, so this year we’d like to see some of that spirit in the parade. Perhaps a Harold Hill character. Too bad our mayor can’t emulate George Shinn, but could she emulate his wife Eulalie? We dare her! How about the school board — could you learn a little barbershop? And who would play Marian the Librarian?
Just kidding? Maybe. But perhaps the town’s folk can come up with some fun suggestions for new bands, and unusual parade performers, such as stilt-walking clowns or other entertainers.
And can anyone ever beat Roberts Avenue in the float competition? It’s worth a try. So start planning a float, or a costume and let’s have this parade be the best ever. Of course donations are needed, so if you can dig deep in this crunch time, it is appreciated more than ever. Donations by mail go to PO Box 15, Haddonfield, NJ 08033, and by credit card at the Information Center, 2 Kings Court from Monday, June 15 to Tuesday, June 30, during business hours. If you have already donated, thank you for your continued participation. See you at the fireworks on July 3 at dusk and July 4 from 8:30 to 9:30 for parade registration, and our wonderful parade beginning at 10 a.m.
