Harlem Globetrotter Chris “handles” Franklin takes on Haddonfield to prevent bullying
Tatem Elementary School students eagerly waited to see Harlem Globetrotter Chris “Handles” Franklin at a special anti-bullying performance last Friday in the school’s auditorium. During the performance, Franklin showed off basketball tricks and discussed the negative impacts of bullying in playful and engaging ways. During the performance, students learned some new basketball tricks and how to stop the silent epidemic affecting schools across the country — bullying. It was all laughs and excitement as students were picked out of the crowd to show off their court skills.
Haddonfield Writers encourages residents to express their creative side
Tucked away in Inkwood Books on Kings Highway in Haddonfield is a unique space that allows for fantasies, short stories and poems to come alive in a collaborative and supportive setting. Both new and experienced writers of all ages are encouraged to nurture their creative side and be a part of the Haddonfield Writer’s Club. Jamie Grookett and Faith Brody founded the Haddonfield Writers Club in July, on a mission to bring out residents’ artistic side in addition to giving writers a space to inspire one another.
Central Middle School gets into the spirit of “No-Shave November” with a unique fundraising idea
November is the month of Thanksgiving, holiday festivities and — beards? At least that’s what the faculty at Haddonfield Central Middle School will be sporting this month. Facial hair has been all the rage at the school after seven faculty members added their own, unique twist to “No-Shave November.” Only a few weeks ago, seven teachers embarked on a journey to raise awareness for prostate cancer in a fun and lighthearted way by implementing a unique fundraiser in Central Middle School.
Three incumbents, one newcomer elected to Haddonfield Board of Education
Three incumbents and one newcomer were victorious last week in the 2017 Haddonfield Board of Education election. Incumbents Maureen Lynn Eyles and Heather Paoli, and newcomer Thomas Vecchino were elected to three-year terms on the board. Eyles was the top vote getter with 2,588 votes. Vecchio finished in second place with 2,120 votes. Paoli was re-elected with 2,074 votes. Glenn R. George finished in fourth place with 1,305 votes. Incumbent Robert Little III finished in fifth place with 1,256 votes. Incumbent Glenn Moramarco won re-election for a one-year unexpired term. Moramarco ran unopposed for his seat.
