In our previous article, World Startup Factory announced the start of their Sustainable Cities Accelerator. Now it’s time to announce the nine inspiring startups who are taking part in the accelerator

Meet Accesshub

One-liner: Your single trusted key to many digital doors

Everyone needs easy and secure access to social and corporate resources, payments and finance accounts, cloud storages, remote desktops etc. However, passwords are obsolete and dangerous, Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) is inconvenient and expensive and Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) is too complicated. Viruses, key loggers, and malware are focused on user’s credentials. We provide our customers with subscription based access to value-added services including; dedicated VPN-on-Demand, password-free single-sign-on, secure file storage, private messaging, and a secure remote desktop in any browser.

Meet Cittamap

One-liner: Equipping organisations with the data to succeed

Climate change causes several drastic issues for societies, such as dangerous weather events and unhealthy living conditions. We are building a tool that captures the necessary frameworks for sustainability and presents the data to policymakers to take action, to citizens to raise awareness and engagement, to industries to apply their expertise to solve new challenges, and finally to research institutions to validate their research.

Founders from Start.Solar, Lululox, and Scoby coworking at the start of the accelerator

Meet Lululox

One-liner: User-friendly and unpickable locking technology

In the Netherlands, theft and burglary are the most common crimes. These two crimes accounted for over 56% of the one and half million crimes committed in 2016. What does this mean for business owners? Money. Lots of it. Namely in insurance cost and rates. The cost of a theft or burglary related incident can cost business owners upwards of €50k. We have a solution to prevent this from happening. We have a locking technology, capable of near infinite variations, with the ability to integrate into any mechanical assembly that can utilise a security bolt or lock and key system

Meet Precious Plastic Den Haag

One-liner: Giving plastic waste a second life

Life without short-life cycle plastics in the near future is almost unthinkable so we wanted to create another solution for the plastic problem. A future in which every inhabitant of The Hague and its surroundings can participate and strive for a circular economy. With the machines from the project Precious Plastic by Dave Hakkens, we created a transparent plastic recycling system where we make new, functional, design products. Through transparency and design, we want to keep the plastic in the system, instead of the environment all while inspiring and educating people about sustainability and recycling.

Meet SCOBY

One-liner: Creating bio-based, fully edible alternatives to traditional food packaging

Single use plastic, food waste, poor soil, and a lack of healthy bacteria in the food we eat are a few of the issues we’ve identified in day-to-day life. That’s why we’ve created SCOBY. A biological, fully edible packaging solution made through bacterial fermentation. The bacterial source is mixed with collected waste and incubated for fermentation in vertical modules. After 2 weeks of incubation, the solid sheet is molded into the specific use case (sandwich wrappers, bowls, trays etc.) The bacterial source can be reused, making a fully circular process.

Meet Sensorgage

One-liner: We keep smart cities smart with an IoT administration, installation and maintenance platform

Cities are integrating electronics as sources of information throughout their infrastructure, expecting to enact smart decisions to enhance liveability within cities, sustainability, and general knowledge. There is a major issue with the administration, inspection, and maintenance of IoT devices that generate the electronic source of information. They are not handled effectively and as a consequence, erroneous data is poured into big data silos. Smart cities with poor data infrastructure are pointless. We have developed a web platform and mobile application destined to improve the administration, installation, calibration, inspection, and maintenance of Smart city IoT devices.

Meet Sharefox

One-liner: Secure communication and collaboration has never been easier

Nowadays, organizations are required to implement proper technical and organizational measures to protect the personal data of users. Organizations are having difficulties achieving this in their communication and collaboration efforts. Sharefox allows users to communicate and collaborate in a way in which only the participating users of the conversation are able to view the messages and files. Our solution is technologically highly secure (i.e., end-to-end encrypted), while also easily accessible to both internal and external users. Users can participate without installing software, managing passwords, or registering an account.

Meet Start.Solar

One-liner: Empowering participation in climate action by making it easy to invest in clean energy projects

Scientists agree that the greenhouse effect is the main cause for the current global warming trend. Humans play a big role in the expansion of the greenhouse effect by burning fossil fuels, thus increasing CO2 concentration. There is substantial interest from consumers to invest in clean energy but with no easy ways to do so. Start.Solar builds large scale solar farms around the world, both on commercial property and private land. Through the Start.Solar platform users can become co-owners of a solar farm and earn from the electricity generated within minutes.

Entrepreneurs from VeggiHap, Start.Solar, Lululox, and Scoby preparing meals together

Meet VeggiHap

One-liner: Producing vegetable-based food products using surplus vegetables that would have been wasted

We cater to the urban family that needs highly nutritious foods that are simple to cook and can be enjoyed by the whole family, especially to young people who eat less and less vegetables. Transforming vegetables into foods and flavours that young people will enjoy helps reduce the rise in obesity and diabetes. We developed a proprietary pasta process to make 50%+ vegetable pasta. This process has been translated into production line equipment allowing us to produce at large scale.
