Every June we receive the 住民税決定通知書, a small card detailing the resident tax payments for income earned the previous year. If we’ve used the One-Stop system and did not manually file tax, this card also details the deductions due to Furusato Nozei donations.

Calculate expected deductions due to Furusato Nozei donations

This is the amount we’ve donated in the previous year to Furusato Nozei, less 2000 yen administration fee.

Compare with actual deductions from Resident Tax

In the 住民税決定通知書 card, look for the 税額控除額 (5) rows in the middle section. Sum up both numbers. The sum should equal the expected deductions calculated above.

If there are discrepancies, the blank space on the left section should contain the details or reason, look for 寄附金税額控除額.

The screenshots above assume a Furusato Nozei donation of 20000 yen. The expected deduction amount would be 18000 yen. Since the 税額控除額 (5) rows add up to 20500 yen, we look to the blank space on the left section. The details show that the total donation deduction 寄附金税額控除額 is 18000 yen as expected. This means that all of the Furusato Nozei spending was deducted from resident tax.
