Haiku 2023–183
wind-blown trees swaying

a kaleidoscope

I don’t often bump the haiku I have slated for the day, but I’m choosing to make an exception for that today.
We had quite the storm blow through here last night. Since I couldn’t sleep anyway, I moved out to the couch to watch it move through. While I can’t see much sky out our back window, near constant lightning brought plenty of visual interest. That alone provided content worthy of haiku, but when the wind hit the large trees in our back yard the scene became something truly special. The view out the back window became a variety of constantly moving shapes and colors — the white of the lightning, the indigo of the skies, the green of the trees, hints of pink and blue from closer strikes. The effect on me could best be described as mesmerizing and psychedelic — most decidedly worthy of an attempt to capture in words.
