keeping my mind clear

during my meditation

a constant struggle

— —

For anyone that has been a regular consumer of my haiku, you already know that I have a meditation practice I engage in every morning. Basic meditation is relatively simple in theory: sit there, concentrate on your breathing, notice your body, and notice your surroundings. It can, however, be difficult in execution. I wrote this haiku after a particularly frustrating seven minutes sitting in meditation. During that session, all manner of thoughts kept entering my brain and it wasn’t until about four minutes in that I hadn’t thought about my breath for a single instant. How important were these thoughts? A couple of days after I wrote this, I can’t for the life of me remember what was so important that it had to be thought of when I was supposed to be thinking about nothing. At least it enabled me to offer this haiku to you.
