Haiku 2023–231
snake on the bike path
we both give one another
the respect deserved

Yesterday found my wife and I in our shared happy place — the bike trail. Twenty miles of riding on a trail we’ve not visited before provided lots of material to ponder for inclusion in this space. The one that bubbled to the top — mostly because it left the biggest impression — involves a snake.
There I was, cruising down the asphalt, probably thinking about haiku or how out of shape I am, when I look up and see this moving fast-moving zig-zag…
SNAKE!!!
While a garter snake warming itself is no threat to me, the zig-zag is the international sign of “get the hell away”… and so I did by swerving to the left… and they did too by slithering to right.
I’ve got not problems with snakes. They have their place in their world just like I have mine. After this ten second encounter. I’ve I went on with my day. They went on with theirs.
P.S. The original art is by the author. I’m branching out into other creative endeavors.
