Haiku 2023–246
at the eye doctor
a song playing from the days
of better vision
— —
My wife and I included a visit to our eye doctor yesterday to pick up her new glasses. While waiting for adjustments to be made, a song began playing on the overhead speakers that was a big part of my life from 1989–1993 — ‘She Sells Sanctuary’ by The Cult, if you must know. Of course I started rocking out in the molded plastic chair I was sitting in… because… well… I have fond memories of this song. Right in the middle of my turn at the pretend drum kit, it occurred to me that I didn’t need glasses until 1991. Not only that, The Cult would never make the playlist at the optometrist I visited in those days. I guess that means that thirty-some years later, I’m the target audience for the eye doctor.
