Haiku 2023–260
outside the window
tinges of autumn color
speckled in the green

I’ve written in this space before about the floor-to-ceiling, wall-to-wall window that overlooks a ravine that sits at one end of our living room. With foliage so thick we can’t see the neighbors that live behind us, it’s a thick curtain of green during the summer. That time, however, is nearly over. I glanced over at the window from my writing chair yesterday and noticed a tinge of red on the tree closest to the window. A further bit of looking revealed a bit of yellow here and a touch of orange there. Twenty-four hours later, it’s even more pronounced and I can even see my neighbor’s car if I look hard enough. It’s yet another reminder that fall is nigh here in Southwest Ohio.
